San Ramon Valley softball player Paige McLeod has been named the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for May 16-22 after she had 8,510 votes (40.05%) when the 5 p.m. deadline arrived Wednesday.
Aragon softball player Brooke Tran (7,182 votes/33.80%) took second and Heritage softball player Kasey Aguinaga finished third.

McLeod, a junior pitcher/first baseman, threw a complete game in San Ramon Valley’s 2-1 win over Bishop O’Dowd in the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.
She allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out eight. McLeod ended the week with 156 strikeouts in 160⅔ innings and a .400 batting average with 13 extra-base hits.
She has pitched about 90 percent of SRV’s innings.
