Piedmont Hills soccer player Samantha Wallace is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Nov. 29 to Dec. 5 after she received 16,686 votes (39.93%) by the deadline at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Freedom basketball player Alayah Flucus (37.71%) finished second and Berkeley soccer player Urzula Root was third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Wallace, a sophomore striker, had three goals, three assists for nine points as Piedmont Hills opened the season by going 2-0-1. She had two goals and an assist in a 4-4 draw with Saratoga and had a goal and assist in a 3-0 win over James Lick.
