In an extremely close vote, College Park water polo player Elsa Horciza edged Granada volleyball player Nayeli Ti’a for Bay Area News Group girls high school athlete of the week honors (Oct. 25-31).

At the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday, Horciza had 10,427 votes (32.12%) to Ti’a’s 10,166 (31.31%).

Mountain View volleyball player Tessa Hunter (13.15%) finished third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Horciza, a sophomore, had six goals, three assists and nine steals in victories over Clayton Valley and Northgate, helping Falcons qualify for the North Coast Section Division I playoffs as the No. 5 seed.

She began this week with 67 goals and 58 steals on the season.

(College Park beat Washington-Fremont 14-5 on Wednesday to advance to the NCS quarterfinals. The Falcons travel to No. 4 seed James Logan on Saturday).
