In a record-setting vote, Northgate volleyball player Tui Saluni edged Leland water polo player Jenna Flynn for Bay Area News Group girls high school athlete of the week honors (Oct. 18-24).

At the 5 p.m. Wednesday deadline, Saluni had 19,537 votes (37.64%) to Flynn’s 18,916 (36.44%).

Foothill volleyball player Grayce Olson had 6,641 votes (12.80%) to finish third.

In all, there were 51,879 votes at the deadline.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Saluni, a senior middle hitter, had 18 kills, three aces and three blocks in straight-set victories over Alhambra and Las Lomas.

Her efforts helped the Broncos receive the sixth seed in the North Coast Section Division II playoffs.
