Palo Alto basketball player Vienn Sheng is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Jan. 24-30 after receiving 50.54% of the vote by the deadline at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Las Lomas basketball player Isabela de la Cruz (24.40%) finished second and San Ramon Valley basketball player Natalie Pasco (10.45%) took third.

In a wild game for first place in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s De Anza Division, Sheng, a freshman, scored 18 points to lead Palo Alto to a 52-45 victory on the road in overtime against Los Gatos. Sheng’s points were all on 3-pointers.
The victory improved Palo Alto’s record to 15-1, 6-0.
