Archbishop Mitty basketball standout Derek Sangster has been named Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week for Dec. 13-19 after receiving 41.17% of the vote by the deadline at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Menlo School soccer player Alessandro Velasquez placed second and Bellarmine basketball player Nick Corbett finished third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Sangster, a 6-foot-7 junior, had 21 points and 10 rebounds as Mitty ran its record to 4-1 with a 63-32 victory over Menlo-Atherton.

The Monarchs are ranked No. 2 in the latest Bay Area News Group Top 25.
