If you’ve ever been curious about that house on the corner, or the hillside or behind the big gates, and wondered what it looked like inside, you’ll be able to find out for at least six extravagant homes featured on the Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 8.

The tour focuses on a variety of new or recently renovated houses, from over-the-top estates to family homes in Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose. (See below for links to the other properties.) Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 on the day of the tour.

The owners of the home on Rudy Drive in San Jose wanted it to do something lots of parents fail at — get the kids to venture outside their rooms and away from computer screens, to enjoy outdoor play and to keep the family talking.

To do so, the home designers created a space where the living, dining, kitchen and family rooms are all connected to a large deck and to outdoor places.

To complement the openness, a decision was made to include big-scale pocket doors that would allow the residents to close off the family room from the rest of the house, creating a smaller, cozier place for the family to gather and spend time together.

The single-level open plan allows light and air to flow inside, creating a home that reflects the owners’ modern lifestyle.
