Saturday’s Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour — set in a region that is home to perhaps the hottest housing market in the country — will give guests a chance to look behind the facades of six sleek, elegant homes in Mountain View, Palo Alto and San Jose.

The tour focuses on a variety of new or recently renovated houses, from over-the-top estates to family homes. (See below for links to the other properties.) Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 on the day of the tour.

The owner of this Silent Hills Lane home in Los Altos Hills, for example, had just three requests when he met with longtime friend and architect Maurice Camargo — who had designed two houses for him already. Among them: a salt-water aquarium, a big swimming pool and wood shingle exterior. Camargo filled in the rest, based on his 37-year friendship with the owner.

Highlights of the home include two large salt-water aquariums, clerestory windows, an olive orchard and a vineyard visible from the great room’s panoramic window, the owner’s corner office, the pool and the terrace. A detached four-car garage includes a bay for the owner’s German shepherds with bathing, feeding and sleeping facilities. And two flagpoles on the upper sun deck are used to fly the U.S. flag on one and the flags of the 49ers, Sharks or Warriors.
