Leigh water polo player Owen Neitzel is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for Oct. 10-15 after he received 47.53% of the vote at the deadline Wednesday.

Foothill water polo player Cameron Jones (38.47%) finished second and Woodside football player Mattia Longo placed third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

In four matches during the week — three wins, one loss — Neitzel led Leigh with 31 goals and nine assists. The Longhorns reached the final at the Harbor High School tournament.

Among stats reported to MaxPreps, Neitzel, a senior, began this week leading the Central Coast Section with 162 points (137 goals, 25 assists).
