For the second week in a row, a San Ramon Valley football player is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week.

John Ben Pau Mendoza received 14,635 votes (43.66%) by the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday to capture this week’s honor (Sept. 12-17).

Menlo School cross country runner Landon Pretre finished second and Moreau Catholic football player Dean-Taylor Chapman placed third.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Pau Mendoza follows teammate Luke Baker to give San Ramon Valley back-to-back athletes of the week.

The junior scored three touchdowns last Friday to help the undefeated Wolves roll past Las Lomas 41-17.

Pau Mendoza carried only six times and finished with 88 yards as San Ramon Valley improved to 3-0 heading into its game Friday at Liberty.

To nominate an athlete for next week’s poll, email highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com by Monday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. Please include stats and team results.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps.com by coaches/team statisticians for consideration.
