With large gatherings banned across the state to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, protesters found a way to get their message across.
From their cars.
Members of San Mateo County Coalition for Immigrant Rights protested from their cars Wednesday, calling on San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos to improve decarceration protocols. They also sought to stop all notifications and transfers to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in an effort to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
About 11 a.m., the demonstrators drove up and down Winslow Street honking their horns and waving their signs from outside of their car windows near Maguire Correctional Facility. Roughly a dozen sheriff’s deputies watched nearby as the long line of protesters drove by.
