OAKLAND – An ugly finish for the Oakland Raiders was matched by some ugly scenes from their fans Sunday in the team’s final game at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
Dozens of extra security guards surrounded the sidelines in the fourth quarter to prevent fans from storming the field. That show of force worked, but there were still isolated incidents where fans were arrested after climbing over the perimeter wall.

Other fans also threw debris onto the field after the Raiders gave up a last-minute touchdown and lost 20-16 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the final home game before Oakland is scheduled to move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. The Raiders played in Oakland from 1960-1981 and returned from Los Angeles in 1995.
The negative reaction didn’t stop some Raiders players from saying their final goodbyes to the fans despite the devastating loss.
“I just said thanks, you know?” quarterback Derek Carr said. “Whenever I’m done playing football, they can get mad at somebody else someday that’s the quarterback, you know what I mean?”
Carr said he wasn’t surprised at the boos.
“Oh gosh, what’s new with our crowd,” said Carr, who has spent his entire six-year career with the Raiders. “Trust me, it’s not under my skin. It’s nothing new.”
Not all the interactions were negative. Carr went and greeted the hardcore fans of the Black Hole. And rookie defensive end Clelin Ferrell entered as well, offering up his gear to fans.
“I just felt like they’ve been through so much for us,” Ferrell said. “To come out there and not finish like we wanted to… I know this loss was tough for them. I just wanted to give everything I had for them. Whatever I could do.”
