OAKLAND – A 30-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in East Oakland and a suspect was later arrested, authorities said.
Police have not yet released the name of the man killed or of the man who was arrested. Police said the men were Oakland residents and may have known each other.
The shooting was reported just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday on the 1400 block of 77th Avenue near International Boulevard.
Officers arrived to find the 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The Oakland Fire Department and an ambulance crew treated the man, but he died at the scene, police said.

Police said the man was shot after a confrontation with another man who fled the scene in a vehicle. Investigators were able to learn the suspect’s name and he was arrested when he returned to the scene at about 7:20 p.m. Thursday.
Additional details, including a motive for the shooting, have not yet been released by police.
The killing is the 73rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 56 homicides in the city.
