REDWOOD CITY — A portion of the major thoroughfare El Camino Real was closed for about three hours Thursday morning after a SamTrans bus hit and killed a 70-year-old woman, authorities said.

At around 8:47 a.m., a bus traveling south on El Camino hit the woman at the corner of James Avenue, according to SamTrans spokesperson Tasha Bartholomew.

There were four passengers aboard the bus, Bartholomew said, with no other reported injuries.

The bus was traveling the ECR route, which runs between the Palo Alto Transit Center and the Daly City BART Station.

After investigating the scene and clearing the crash, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office deputies and SamTrans authorities reopened the roadway at around 12:30 p.m.
