What’s your favorite spontaenous weekend getaway? Whether you prefer popping down to San Diego or up to Portland, most travelers choose their last-minute escapes based on convenience, value and leisure activities.
Using those factors, Hotwire, the travel website, recently created an index of America’s Best Cities for a Quickie (that’s what the millennials call them). And you’ll recognize many of these all-around favorite major metropolises in the top 10, from Los Angeles and Las Vegas to three cities in Texas: Austin, Houston and Dallas. San Francisco took the No. 8 spot.
Hotwire analyzed more than 10,000 data points across 250 cities and weighed those factors we mentioned earlier that are critical to an unexpected two or three-night trip: Bang for your buck, ease of departure and arrival, and things to do. In addition to big cities, they also crunched the numbers on the best mid-size, must-see cities (Atlanta came in No. 1), small town favorites (Orlando took the top spot) and itty-bitty cities (our own Newport Beach for the win).
