Moist mid-week conditions are expected to give way to a brief Bay Area dry spell before at least two storms arrive over the coming weekend with unsettled conditions next week, the National Weather Service said Wednesday.
“We’ve got an upper trough moving through late Friday and an upper low Sunday coming from the northwest,” National Weather Service meteorologist Anna Schneider said.
“We’ll see temperatures in the 50s,” Schneider said. “although it might be a little cooler in the mountains.”
Winds are not expected to be as strong Thursday as was seen in some places Wednesday, with the possible exception of gusts over some mountains and foothills, Schneider said.
As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mt. Diablo had logged 0.85 inches over the last 24 hours, while a North Oakland weather gauge logged 0.29 inches, while Mt. Umumhum and Loma Prieta saw 1.14 and 1.08 inches respectively.
Sunday’s system is expected to bring about a half-inch of rain to the East Bay and a quarter- to half-inch to the South Bay. Upper-level systems alternating with brief dry spells are expected for Northern California through next week, and that uncertainty continues to complicate any snow predictions for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.
