We rejoin our castaways after the dramatic and unexpected torch snuffing of John, and Davie makes a speech about respecting every one’s game plan, but privately, he’s reliving the moment the Mayor of Slamtown went down.
The stunned Goliaths — Alison, Kara and Alec — talk about joining the Davids, even though Goliath has a narrow one person advantage. Alec thinks that perhaps they’ve been Goliath Strong too long.
Dan the hunky cop sits alone on the beach for two hours, and feeling more and more put upon. He played one of his two secret idols for Angelina, who didn’t actually need it. And now no one is talking to him.
Kara tells him it’s up to him to get up off the beach and talk to people. Kara makes a tough decision to cut her ties with him.
Reward Challenge
Today’s challenge divides the tribe into two teams of five. They’ll have to work their way through a maze, collecting a bag of tiles that contain the combination to a lock box, which will give them a key to pieces of a snake puzzle. First team to solve the puzzle get to partake in the burger bar.
Sadly, one person will have to sit out, and that unlucky guy is Carl.
The team of Alec, Kara, Dan, Mike and Davie win the reward. Although the other team takes it hard, Gabby thinks this will be a good chance to talk to Alison about pulling her over to the Davids.
Angelina is crying over the lack of veggie burgers. Meanwhile, Gabby grills Alison on what’s going on with the Goliaths, and she admits everyone is thinking about switching alliances. Alison says she almost wrote down Angelina’s name, and Gabby says it’s a good thing she didn’t because that wouldn’t have been much of a big move. Not like taking out someone like, oh let’s just toss out a name, Dan.
Alison thinks that might be a good move, but she’s uncertain.
At the burger bar, Mike, Dan and Kara talk about staying strong and Dan suggests going after Christian again.
Kara decides her best bet is to work with Alison and Alec, and vote out Dan. To gain their trust, she tells them that Dan has another secret idol. Uh oh.
While much of the tribe sleeps, Davie, Carl, Christian and Gabby are up before dawn, searching for another hidden idol. Everyone gives up except Christian, who uses his analytical mind, dividing the island into sectors. He searches a little in each place and eventually finds it.
Immunity Challenge
This challenge is all about balance. Each player has to high step through a grid, untie a ball and balance it on a flat platform while crossing a teeter-totter. There are three balls to retrieve, and then when they’re done, they have to work the balls through a balance maze into three holes.
Alec and Dan fly through the challenge, but it is Alec who pulls ahead and wins the immunity necklace.
Dan is bummed he didn’t win, but glad a fellow Goliath and friend, Alec, did. He predicts that Christian will be gone tonight.
Kara is planning to take Dan out tonight. To do that, she needs the Davids. She tells them to be on the safe side, they should split the votes between Angelina and Dan. Alison thinks the Davids are too agreeable and are plotting something devious. She has a moment of clarity that the Goliaths have to stand strong.
Alec tells Alison that he agrees, and that they need to take out Christian after all. They tell Kara of the plan, and she decides to let Dan live. Meanwhile, the Davids see all the Goliaths gathered together and figure out they’re flipping the script once more and they can’t rely on them to vote off Dan.
The Davids meet and share the information about Nick’s vote stealing idol, Carl’s idol nullifier and Christian’s hidden immunity idol. The question is when to play them and what ones.
Tribal Council
Host Jeff Probst welcomes the survivors back to tribal and asks what kind of impact John’s vote last week had on the game. Alison said it was a wake up call for her.
Probst asks the Davids whether there was joy in watching the Goliaths suffer for a change. Gabby says that’s sort of harsh, but it was a relief. Probst asks whether the tribe divisions are even stronger now, and all of the Goliaths agree it is. The Davids say they’ve tried to work across tribal lines and had the door slammed in their faces. They worked together to vote out Elizabeth, a David, but when it came time to vote off a Goliath, Angelina, they balked.
Nick says there’s a chance to bust things open and let people play with whom they want. Carl says it’s simple. Either one of the Goliaths is going to switch over and vote with them, or the Goliaths will get a stronger advantage.
Turns out it wasn’t exactly all that simple.
Before going to vote, Nick pulls out his steal-a-vote advantage, and claims Alison’s vote, giving him two. She’s not happy, she says, because she wanted to prove to her alliance that she supported them, and now she can’t.
Dan asks Kara whether he should play his idol for himself or Alison. He decides to play it for himself and is feeling pretty good about it, until Probst holds up a disc and announces it is an idol nullifier, and that it was secretly played against Dan.
When the votes come in eliminating Dan, Carl holds his advantage letter up so everyone knows it was his slingshot that knocked out Dan.
Next time: Angelina isn’t happy that she got votes at Tribal, and Gabby and Carl are feuding.
