President Donald Trump railed against Democratic lawmakers leading formal impeachment proceedings in tweets Monday morning, asking if House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff should be arrested for treason.

Schiff said Sunday that he expects the whistleblower at the heart of impeachment proceedings against Trump to testify “very soon.”

His committee has been negotiating to interview the person, who reported to the inspector general for the intelligence community that Trump had urged Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate the family of Joe Biden, the former vice president who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president — and a main rival for Trump in the 2020 race. The whistleblower also said that White House officials then moved to “lock down” the details by putting all the records of it on a separate computer system.

Trump later tweeted a comment from the Rev. Robert Jeffress, pastor of the Southern Baptist megachurch First Baptist Church in Dallas, who compared Trump’s removal from office to creating a “civil war-like fracture” in America: “If the Democrats are successful in removing the president from office, it will cause a civil war-like fracture in this nation from which our country will never heal,” Jeffress said Sunday on Fox News.

One Republican, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a former Air Force pilot who represents an Illinois district that Trump won in 2016, responded with outrage: “I have visited nations ravaged by civil war. … I have never imagined such a quote to be repeated by a President. This is beyond repugnant.”
