Sit back, relax and enjoy as the sun sets over the wetlands of the Hayward Regional Shoreline, located along San Francisco Bay.
Located along San Francisco Bay, the shoreline encompasses 1,841 acres of saltwater, freshwater and brackish water marshes, as well as seasonal wetlands. It also boasts 5 miles of public trails.
Visitors to the Hayward Regional Shoreline — which is part of the East Bay Regional Park District — can go hiking, bicycling, jogging, birdwatching and fishing.
A section of the San Francisco Bay Trail, a planned 500-mile walking and cycling path, runs through the shoreline. The Bay Trail currently has more than 350 miles of trails in place; the ultimate goal is a continuous trail around the entire bay.
Although currently closed due to the pandemic, visitors can check out the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center. The center, which was built on stilts above a salt marsh, offers exhibits, program and activities about the ecology of the San Francisco Bay Estuary.
