Update: Reports say Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger will receive surgery on Friday April 5 in New York to deal with a faulty heart valve.
Mick Jagger will undergo heart surgery this week following the postponement of the Rolling Stones’ North American tour, according to reports.
It seems that the 75-year-old rocker is getting surgery to “have a stent placed in his heart,” according to Page Six, but Jagger could be back in action relatively soon after the procedure. Rolling Stone magazine later said it confirmed the report, saying that Jagger needed to fix a faulty heart valve.
“You can be back at work within weeks” a source tells Page Six. “But it could be because the health checks are all set into the insurance for the tour, maybe they’re being careful (by postponing the tour).”
The surgery will take place in New York City and Jagger is expected to make a full recovery, according to Drudge Report, which broke the story.

News of the tour postponement came over the weekend on the Stones’ website.
“Unfortunately today the Rolling Stones have had to announce the postponement of their upcoming U.S. / Canada tour dates — we apologise for any inconvenience this causes those who have tickets to shows but wish to reassure fans to hold onto these existing tickets, as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates, which will be announced shortly,” a statement read.
The announcement said the reason for the postponement was Jagger’s health, but did not specify what is ailing the front man.
“Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment. The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible,” the statement read.
The statement did include a quote from Jagger, apologizing to fans for having to postpone the tour.
“I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets, I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on the road as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone,” Jagger said.
The tour postponement impacts Bay Area fans as the Stones were supposed to roll into Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on May 18.
According to a message on the Levi’s Stadium website: “Our promoters AEG Presents / Concerts West advise people who have tickets to attend these shows to hold onto their existing tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled dates.”
