Join us as we explore Stow Lake at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The manmade lake dates back to 1893 and offers visitors hiking and bike trails, wildlife viewing, picnicking, and even ghost hunting. It features Huntington Falls and a pagoda given to the park from San Francisco’s “sister city” of Taipei, Taiwan,

Stow Lake, between JFK Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, is the largest of the park’s 10 lakes and the second biggest lake in the city. Visitors can rent rowboats and paddleboats at the boathouse and embark on a slow race with the ducks around Strawberry Hill, the lake’s manmade island, and Huntington Falls. The boathouse currently is closed due to the shelter-in-place.

Did you know a ghost might be watching? As the story goes, a baby drowned in the lake early in the 20th century, and his mother — who went in after him and also died — still roams the banks at night, searching for her child and sometimes asking passersby, “Have you seen my baby?”

Developed in the 1880s, Golden Gate Park is larger than New York’s Central Park and is visited by more than 13 million people each year. The park holds subtle surprises in its 1,000-plus acres.

Did you know there’s a stream that runs uphill? A garden planted with flowers from Shakespeare’s works? A vintage carousel that once spun at the 1939 World’s Fair? A public art studio? A virtual world tour, from pagodas and Roman bridges to mountain cabins and windmills of the Netherlands?

Golden Gate Park currently is celebrating its 150th anniversary. As part of the celebration, officials are streaming a series of concerts that have taken place there. For more information, check out this website.
