The Oscars red carpet on Feb. 24 displayed plenty of head-turning, classic elegance, including a showstopper from Lady Gaga, along with vivid color, lots of puffy pink and fuchsia, and some gender-fluid sartorial flair. (To see which stars tried really hard but missed, check out our Worst Dressed slide show here.)
Regina King, who won best supporting actress tonight, looked like the winner she is in a stunning white, form-fitting Oscar de la Renta gown. And Helen Mirren was just one of several stars who dazzled in pink, the color of the night. Mirren’s rosy gown practically floated and swirled as she strode down the red carpet, while Gemma Chan of “Crazy Rich Asians,” brought her usual fashion-forward daring to the night in a beautiful, flowing, hot pink Valentino.
Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke channeled her fashionable side — rather than her fierce “Mother of Dragons” side — in a shimmery lavender column gown.
And if you ever thought the male fashion side of the Oscars red carpet was a snoozer, “Pose” star Billy Porter may have changed that forever. He broke down the sartorial border by championing gender-fluid style with a black velvet tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano.
