The Olea Hotel is an elegant boutique property tucked against a hillside and surrounded by oak and olive trees in the Sonoma Valley town of Glen Ellen. The October 2017 wildfires forced owners Sia and Ashish Patel to close the hotel for a 10-month renovation and remodel.
The Olea reopened in December with upgrades including a new pool, hot tub and fire pit area, fresh landscaping and interior updates to guest rooms and cottages. Executive chef Khambay Porterkhamsy’s two-course, farm-to-table breakfast is incredible — and included.
ZZZZ’S: The hotel’s 13 guest rooms and two cottages offer midcentury-style king or queen beds with pops of color from pillows, side chairs and artwork. We loved the whimsical features, from air plants to metallic leather macrame wall hangings, in our room and the foam-top king bed was off-the-charts comfortable, with crisp, luxurious Comfy Company white linens, a plush duvet and extra long, cloud-like pillows.
SPLASHES: Bathrooms have heated floors, a Oxygenics rainwater shower head and EO bath products. The partial glass wall on the modern shower pulls out, like a door. Very spa-like. Crave a longer soak? Head outside to the new hot tub, which has powerful jets not just for the back but at calf and foot level.
DON’T MISS: The impressive, complimentary gourmet breakfast featured housemade honey granola and scones, doughnuts filled with orange marmalade cream, persimmon pancakes with huckleberry butter and scrambled eggs with truffled fingerling potatoes, shaved fennel, red pepper coulis and Hobbs bacon.
