Richard Sherman is known to feed off bulletin board material.
Just as he and the 49ers were putting the finishing touches on a 37-20 NFC Championship win over the Packers to clinch their place in the Super Bowl, a voice called out in the darkness offering him a bite.
Darrelle Revis, a seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback in his own right, called into question Sherman’s courage. He was so proud of his idea that he put it on Instagram AND on Twitter, just to be sure his take was heard.
“Fear of getting beat in man to man coverage. Every snap every play,” Revis tweeted, along with an image of Sherman covering Green Bay’s Davante Adams. “The fact that he doesn’t travel as a cornerback is lame. (Accept) the challenge as the best and shut Adams down the entire game. Do it for the game of football. Stop hiding (in) a cover 3 zone.”

Revis tried to backpedal like he did so well for many years as a corner, but it was too late.
49ers fans and other Sherman defenders came out in force to protect their guy. Some highlighted Revis’ current position in retirement while others posted photos and videos of Revis getting beat by receivers.
Both posts from Revis came mere minutes before Sherman’s game-sealing interception of a deep Aaron Rodgers pass intended for Adams.
Sherman, who last week proclaimed himself the best cornerback in the league, said he’d decline to wade in on Revis’ post but kind of did anyway.
I would go in on this has been but I have a Super Bowl to prepare for. Enjoy the view from the couch. Your ninth year looked a lot different than this. Lmao https://t.co/jj3pwWYhVa

Revis came back at Sherman with his 2015 stats, but Sherman responded quickly highlighting his playoff prowess.
I have to cover every game kid. I get my hands on the football in the playoffs something you will never know anything about. https://t.co/V6uFIvNQvT

For reference, Revis and Sherman both have three career playoff interceptions. Neither had one in Super Bowl XLIX, when Revis’ Patriots beat Sherman’s Seahawks, but that game could be the genesis for this animosity.
They’re also tied in Super Bowl rings with one each, but Sherman will have the chance to take the lead in two weeks.
Given the mentality of both guys, somehow it doesn’t seem either will admit defeat in this war of words.
