Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., continues to lead the Democratic presidential field in California, where voters could deliver a substantial victory on Super Tuesday, potentially pivoting the chaotic Democratic 2020 primary race. Sanders is being called the party’s “undisputed front-runner” by the Hill, as other candidates hope to make up ground with less than a week to go.
Voters will head to the polls in South Carolina this weekend, where Sanders is trailing former Vice President Joe Biden by 20 points, according to a Monmouth University survey.
As Biden and Sanders compete for voter support on both coasts ahead of South Carolina and the 14 states voting March 3, at least one poll from the Associated Press-National Opinion Research Center for Public Affairs Research shows some overlap in how the public views the two candidates. When asked to think of a word or phrase to describe the 2020 presidential candidates, most Americans agreed Biden and Sanders were both “old” and “good” candidates.
In the latest poll out of Colorado, Sanders also led by 14 percentage points, according to The Denver Post. While Sanders was supported by 34% of 471 likely primary voters polled there, Sen. Elizabeth Warren D-Ma., followed him at 20%. Former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg trailed Sanders and Warren, tying at 14%. Former Vice President Joe Biden came in fifth place in the Data for Progress poll at 10%.
