At the time of his death, Juice WRLD portrayed himself as being madly in love with Ally Lotti, described in reports as a social media influencer and “cute goth girl” whom he previously said stood by him through his substance abuse struggles and other issues.

Lotti reportedly was with the Chicago rapper when he died early Sunday of unknown causes after he and his entourage arrived by private plane at his hometown’s Midway Airport. The rapper, who had turned 21 six days earlier, collapsed at the airport and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, reported Monday that the rapper may have popped some prescription pills before his collapse and had been abusing Percocet, a painkiller which contains the opioid Oxycodone.

The Chicago Tribune also reported Monday that the rapper also suffered convulsions and a cardiac arrest while police and federal agents were searching his and his entourage’s luggage for guns and drugs.

TMZ said some speculated that Juice WRLD swallowed the Percocet pills in an attempt to hide them during the search. TMZ said FBI agents seized about 70 pounds of marijuana that were stashed in suitcases. Authorities also found a bottle of codeine cough syrup.

Whatever led to Juice WRLD’s death, he had come to believe that Lotti would always have his back. Over the summer, he wrote on Instagram, “U ain’t here. I’m not breathing.”

More recently, he captioned a photo of them embracing, “Can’t come down from the high you give me … sometimes it feels like the worlds against me and I feel so empty, but when ur With me it fills me and exposes the real me.”

In early July, Juice WRLD announced that he had quit using the painkiller codeine because of his love for Lotti. In his lyrics and on social media, the rapper, whose real name was Jarad A. Higgins, had always been open about his mental-health issues and drug battles — a frankness that helped make him a star, the New York Times said in its obituary of the sweet-voiced artist.

It sounded like his abuse of codeine got out of hand over the summer. In a tweet Juice WRLD wrote in early July, he described an episode of tweaking (binging) that terrified Lotti, and he said he deeply regretted it. The rapper referred to what they had together as “the real love I have found.”

Lotti had been traveling with the rapper recently, including to Australia, Japan and New York City in November. She shared photos of their time together with her more than 560,000 Instagram followers.

Page Six reported that she was with him on his flight from California to Chicago. She posted a short video to her Instagram stories of her boarding the flight with him and his entourage, which consisted of about a dozen people.

Juice WRLD, with the rest of the group, appeared to be in “high spirits” and “happy” on the flight, according to footage taken of them on the plane and posted by YouTuber DJ Akademiks.

The rapper went into cardiac arrest shortly after 2 a.m. in the airport’s private hangar, the Chicago Tribune reported.  TMZ also said Sunday that the rapper had suffered a seizure and started bleeding from the mouth.

The New York Post, citing a Chicago police spokesman, earlier reported that two bodyguards with Juice WRLD were arrested on misdemeanor gun charges because they brought weapons into the airport — though they had carry-and-conceal permits that were valid in Illinois. The spokesman also said that no contraband was found on people in the group and that they were being “very cooperative.”

An autopsy is set to take place Monday, the Chicago Tribune also reported.

Lotti has yet to post anything on social media about her boyfriend’s death. But on his birthday, she tweeted a tribute to him.

She wrote, “I just wanna say hbd to my favorite person. this is (your) second birthday i spent (with you) and im so grateful. (You) deserve so much im so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished this past (year). There is not a soul that could match your energy.”

Along with a video of them cuddling and kissing, Lotti wrote on Instagram that she felt “blessed” to be part of his world.

The world first learned that Juice WRLD and Lotti were together in a July 2018 New York Times profile. The rapper, then 19, said he and his girlfriend, identified as Alexia in the story, were living together in Los Angeles.

The New York Times story described him as “lavishing attention” on her through a night of recording music. He explained that he met her just as he was becoming successful and said his friends had questioned whether he had time for a girlfriend.

“All my homies be like: ‘What you doing with a girlfriend? You got all this stuff going on,” he said. “I love her, though. I can admit and say that I have feelings,”

Vulture referred to Lotti as a “cute goth girl” in its March 2019 profile of the rapper.

Before Lotti, Juice WRLD dated a girl in high school. As he told the Gulf-Times in July 2018, their breakup inspired his the single “Lucid Dreams,” which made him a star.

Juice WRLD also dated a singer singer known as Starfire, and is said to have written the song “Love You Always” about her. But after Starfire reportedly spoke negatively about him in an interview, he posted a tweet in December 2018, in which he described the relationship as ending acrimoniously.

Juice WRLD also explained that Lotti was “1000 times better” for him than any of his previously relationships, mainly because she has “my best interest at hand.”

Lotti responded to this tweet by telling Juice WRLD’s ex to “stop worrying abt him and his actions, he’s mine to worry abt.

Several months later, Juice WRLD was still lavishing attention on Lotti, especially, he said, because she continued to put up with him when he messed up. He called her a “good woman” and told her, “My love for you is unmatched.”
