H.E.R. could have a very big night at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
And it would be the second consecutive one for the 22-year-old Vallejo native, whose real name is Gabriella Wilson.
Grammy officials announced Wednesday that H.E.R. is up for five major awards at the 62nd award show. She’ll be vying in three of the top four “general field” categories — album, song and record of the year — as well for best R&B performance and best R&B song when the awards are handed out on Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
That’s the same number of categories that H.E.R. — which reportedly stands for “Having Everything Revealed” — was nominated in for 2019, when she ended up taking home trophies for top R&B performance and R&B album.
H.E.R. celebrated the Grammy nominations on social media.
“5 NOMINATIONS!!!! WHAAAAAT. THATS CRAZY!!!! AGAAAAAINNNNNN. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. GOD IS GREAT,” she wrote on Twitter.

The five nods makes H.E.R. one of the most-nominated artists for the 2020 Grammys. Lizzo’s eight nominations leads the pack, followed by six each for Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X. Ariana Grande received five nods.
Two of H.E.R.’s nominations — record and song of the year — are for the single “Hard Place,” a powerful emotional ballad that definitely ranked among the most striking songs of 2019.
But she’ll face strong competition in both of those categories. Lil Nas X’s chart-topping, record-shattering “Old Town Road” looks like the tune to beat for record of the year (an award given out to the artist). And Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” and Eilish’s “Bad Guy” are definite contenders in both categories.

The singer’s second full-length compilation, “I Used to Know Her,” is up against such popular offerings in the album of the year race as Lana Del Rey’s “Norman (Expletive) Rockwell,” Grande’s “Thank U, Next” and — what has to be considered the favorite to win — Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You.”
