Warriors guard Quinn Cook felt a connection to San Jose having flown in and out of Mineta San Jose International Airport while playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors. On Monday afternoon, Cook helped unveil the refurbished basketball court at the Seven Trees Community Center.
“It goes beyond basketball, I can remember when I was a kid, anytime I was able to meet an NBA player or somebody who played in college or who was famous it would mean so much to me,” he said.
At the community center, the Warriors Community Foundation, in partnership with PepsiCo, Creative Sports Concepts and the City of San Jose, unveiled the Warriors’ 80th court refurbishment project. The renovation work includes a refinished basketball court surface with new lines and logos, including a San José center court logo, an NBA backboard, and protective covers on the scoreboards and shot clocks.
After speeches, by among others, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and Councilwoman Maya Esparza, Cook helped christen the court with a ceremonial tip-off before the Warriors Basketball Camp hosted a clinic on the court with about 40 kids.
“I see myself in all of these kids. I was just going to the gym and trying to pursue my dream and stuff like that,” Cook said.
“When I get in a gym with kids I get into coach mode, it’s fun to interact with them, they always have good questions to ask or how can I help them or what would I do,” he said, “I try to give them my perspective, try to give them what I learned and hopefully they use it and get better at it.”
