As any sports fan will tell you, one of the biggest stories happening in the Bay Area this fall is the opening of the new home of the Golden State Warriors – Chase Center in San Francisco.
Yet, it’s far more than just a sports story.
Chase Center will also have a huge impact on the music scene.
The venue already has well over two dozen concerts booked, starting with the Sept. 6 opener pairing Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony.
Other top talents coming to the state-of-the-art building over the next few months include Janet Jackson, Eric Church, Ariana Grande, Chance the Rapper, Elton John and Cher.
We’ve rounded up the 14 hottest shows on the Chase Center calendar. So, take a look at our list – which we’ve organized starting with the most enticing offerings – and get ready to rock at the Warriors’ brand new digs.

Metallica with San Francisco Symphony
It all starts – both literally and figuratively – with the best-selling Bay Area band of all time reuniting with the city’s world-class symphony, led by storied conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, who’s in his final season with the orchestra. This Sept. 6 opening night concert is definitely the top event to see at Chase, but it might be the top show to catch at any Bay Area venue for the remainder of 2019.
The show is titled “S&M 2,” as it repeats the now-legendary collaboration between Metallica and the symphony in 1999 at the Berkeley Community Theatre. A second “S&M 2” show is set for Sept. 8 at Chase, but ducats were available basically only to Metallica fan club members.

Eric Church
He’s a future Country Music Hall of Famer, destined to someday be considered one of the genre’s all-time greats. And he’s at the top of his game in 2019, thrilling fans with his catalog of memorable tunes (“Talladega,” “Springsteen,” “Give Me Back My Hometown,” etc.) on his blockbuster Double Down Tour. Catch Church on Sept. 28 at Chase. He also visits the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Nov. 22-23.

Eric Clapton
Finally! Clapton, one of the most acclaimed guitarists of all time, makes his long-awaited return to the Bay Area on Sept. 11. It’s Slowhand’s first local show in more than eight years – since a March 2011 date at the SAP Center.
Jimmie Vaughan, another first-rate blues-rock guitarist, is also on the bill.

Ariana Grande
Having just performed at the SAP Center in San Jose and the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento in May, the pop star brings her Sweetener World Tour back to Northern California for a two-night stand, Dec. 17-18, at Chase.

Chance the Rapper
The talented Chicagoan, who probably has the Obamas on speed dial, visits Chase on Sept. 14 in support of “The Big Day” album, which came out in late July and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Fellow Chi-Town rapper Taylor Bennett is also on the bill.

The Who
Could the band’s current Moving On! Tour be its last? Who knows? What we do know is that fans won’t want to miss Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and company on Oct. 9. Liam Gallagher, best know as the onetime singer for Oasis (and for his legendary feuds with bother Nigel Gallagher) opens the show.

The Black Keys, Modest Mouse
Don’t get us wrong — the Keys are great and all. But we’re even more excited about seeing the other platinum-selling band on the bill — the great Modest Mouse, which has been responsible for some of the best alt-rock records of the last 25 years. Make sure to get there on time to see opening act Shannon and the Clams from Oakland on Nov. 20.

Cher
Arguably one of the most iconic performers of all time, singer Cher heads back to the Bay Area for a Nov. 21 date at Chase. Opening the show is the amazing guitarist Nile Rodgers and his band Chic, making this one of the most tantalizing doubleheaders of the year.

Santana
Carlos Santana and company were terrific during their sold-out show back in June at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain View. Now, the guitar legend is set to close out his blockbuster Supernatural Now Tour with a huge hometown show in San Francisco on Nov. 12. Opening the show is War, the famed SoCal act responsible for such tunes as “Spill the Wine,” “The Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider.”

Janet Jackson
She was finally enshrined into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year. We’re guessing that she’ll use this Sept. 21 show to illustrate many of the reasons why voters should have inducted Jackson years ago.

Elton John
Bay Area fans shouldn’t miss what may well be the last chance to see this legendary piano man perform such all-time great songs as “Tiny Dancer,” “Levon” and, best of all, “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” in the Bay Area. John brings his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to Chase on Sept. 13 and 15.

Sara Bareilles
Look at the resume of this multitalented Eureka native and you’ll find a number of big Grammy nominations, including for album of the year (for 2013’s “The Blessed Unrest”) and song of the year (2007’s “Love Song”). You’ll also find a hit Broadway musical “Waitress” (which comes to the Center for Performing Arts in San Jose Dec. 17-22, www.broadwaysanjose.com) and many other notable achievements. Bareilles performs Oct. 26 at Chase.

Logic
He’s got mad skills on the microphone, which he’ll surely put to great use on Oct. 13 at Chase. Logic is touring in support of his latest chart-topper, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.” J.I.D and YBN Cordae are also on the bill.

Bon Iver
The Grammy-winnng indie-folk act, led by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon, performs Sept. 12 in support of its fourth studio album, “I, I.” Definitely get there on time to see opening act Sharon Van Etten.
