Bellarmine ends St. Francis’ win streak

For over a month, no team could stop the red-hot St. Francis baseball team, which heading into its game Tuesday at home against rival Bellarmine carried a 15-game winning streak and was undefeated in West Catholic Athletic League play.

But the Bells had an answer for St. Francis, the Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked team.

They led by one heading into the sixth inning and then Diego Enriquez and Matthew Dicicco extended the advantage as each hit RBI doubles.

The Bells won 6-3.

Bellarmine improved to 16-5-1 overall, and 7-2-1 in league play. St. Francis dropped to 20-3, 9-1.

Dicicco led the way for the Bells, going 2 for 3 and knocking in a pair of runs.

Dominic Rolla started for Bellarmine and pitched four innings, allowing three runs. Ishaan Khambal gave up no hits in three innings of relief.

Christian Galvez hit a two-run home run for St. Francis in the first inning.

No. 15 Sacred Heart Cathedral 13, No. 5 Archbishop Mitty 0

SHC avenged a 21-1 loss earlier in the season to Archbishop Mitty with a rout of the visiting Monarchs in WCAL play.

Lucas Kelly went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and three RBIs and scored three runs for the Fightin’ Irish.

Aidan Taclas knocked in four runs, Ronin Mukai had a three-hit, three-RBI game and Nick Katz pitched six innings.

SHC improved to 13-8-1, 5-5. Mitty slipped to 15-6, 4-6.

No. 4 Valley Christian 6, Archbishop Riordan 1

Valley Christian, playing on the road, extended its winning streak to seven games as it rolled past Archbishop Riordan in a WCAL game.

Pitchers Jacob Hudson and Alec Berlades held Riordan to one hit. Hudson, along with Michael Casteneda, Hunter Fujimoto and PJ Mountzouridis, knocked in a run for the Warriors.

Valley Christian is 18-4-1, 7-2-1. Riordan fell to 11-12, 1-9.

Serra 2, St. Ignatius 1

Serra scored two runs in the home half of the sixth inning to come back and beat visiting St. Ignatius in WCAL play.

Will Bowen and Lucas Schumaker brought in the runs on a single and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Ryan Beck pitched three innings of relief without allowing a hit for the save.

Serra improved to 12-10, 3-7. St. Ignatius slipped to 10-10, 3-7.

No. 17 Liberty 4, Antioch 3 (9 innings)

Christian Loercher hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to continue Liberty’s undefeated run in Bay Valley Athletic League action.

Nate Bell had a 3-for-4 game and stole a base and scored two runs. Cole Ehrhorn and Michael Baker combined for 11 strikeouts for the Lions, who improved to 15-5, 7-0.

Cristian Bajjlieha and James Fritzler knocked in runs for Antioch, which slipped to 13-7, 3-4.

Softball

No. 1 Granada 11, No. 7 Foothill 1

Notre Dame-bound Makayla Winchell had three RBIs, Mariah Ayala homered and Alex Mello pitched a complete game as Granada stretched its win streak to seven with a victory over Foothill in East Bay Athletic League play.

Saskia Raab and Alecsis Phillips also had a multi-RBI game for the Matadors, who improved to 19-1, 9-0. Foothill slipped to 14-7, 6-4.

No. 4 Livermore 3, Monte Vista 0

Taylor Rodriguez struck out nine in a complete-game shutout over Monte Vista in an EBAL game.

Jae Cosgriff, Audrey Sweet and Kaitlyn Aguilar had an RBI, with runs being scored in the fifth and sixth innings.

Livermore is 16-3-1, 8-1. Monte Vista fell to 9-9, 5-4.

No. 15 Sequoia 3, No. 6 Aragon 0

Sequoia scored two runs in the first inning and one in the seventh in a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division win over host Aragon.

Ainsley Waddell pitched a three-hitter for the Ravens, who lost 2-1 earlier in the season to Aragon. Emerson Seevers and Mackenzie Jackson each knocked in a run for Sequoia, which improved to 13-4, 6-2.

Aragon dropped to 11-4, 7-1.

No. 10 Benicia 10, No. 9 College Park 6

Emma French went 3 for 3 and hit a grand slam, her fourth home run of the season, at home in a Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division victory over College Park

Braxton Brown struck out eight, Denise Pauletich homered and Lorenzza Marcacci had a two-run double for Benicia. The Panthers are 13-5, 6-1.

College Park fell to 13-6-1, 6-2.
