What happens when a pair of architects design their own home-work space? A dramatic home with a very small footprint.
Built in the Oakland Hills, the is one of six that will be open to virtual tours during June 26’s Modern Home Tour put on by the Modern Architecture + Design Society.
The Oakland home is just 1,246 square feet, but it covers three levels and includes a 274-square design studio work space. All three levels have open floor plans and views that flow and overlook each level. The result? A home that feels much larger than it is.
A center galleried space, with three large tiered skylights, displays artwork by one of the architects and can be viewed from any room in the house.
Environmental features include expansive solar panels, eco-friendly insulation, LED lighting and drought-resistant landscaping — and no commute.
