A passion for the great outdoors, nature photography and Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs all combined to create this prairie style home in Los Altos.

The home is one of six featured on the June 26 virtual Modern Homes tour, orchestrated by the Modern Architecture + Design Society. COVID cancelled the annual tour of homes last year, but the group has designed its way around it by offering real-time tours of the homes and live discussions with those involved in their design and construction.

The inspiration for the prairie style design came from Wright’s Robie House, built in 1909-10, and considered the greatest example of Prairie School design, the first truly original American style.

The architects of the Los Altos home also were influenced by their client’s love for nature photography. In creating the home, elements of the National Forests the owners had visited inspired the design throughout the home.

Elements such as recycled glass in the shower area and Cambria natural countertops add to the home’s natural feel.
