Add bench coach to the list of holes the A’s will need to fill this offseason following the second 100-loss season in Oakland history.
Brad Ausmus won’t return as manager Mark Kotsay’s right hand man next season, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported Monday night. In declining to come back for a second season on the A’s bench, the 53-year-old Ausmus is said to be pursuing an MLB front office position somewhere.

Ausmus, who was the only A’s coach on Kotsay’s staff who managed in the big leagues, has previously worked in baseball operations for the Angels and Padres. The former Tigers and Angels skipper sat alongside the rookie manager Kotsay while the A’s went an American League-worst 60-102 last season.
Former A’s and Giants player Mike Aldrete, who was Oakland’s quality control coach last year, is the only remaining coach on staff who has been a bench coach (2015 for Bob Melvin’s Oakland staff).
