VIDEO: Officers investigate Oakland’s 33rd homicide of the year

OAKLAND — A 29-year-old Vallejo man was fatally shot early Wednesday morning at an East Oakland gas station, authorities said.

The man’s name has not yet been released.

The shooting happened at about 2:26 a.m. Wednesday at the Valero gas station in the 2200 block of East 12th Street.

Police said the man was sitting in a parked car near some pumps when he was approached by someone from outside who shot him multiple times.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The shooter fled before police responded.

Police don’t know yet why the man was in Oakland and if he stopped at the station to purchase gas or was there for some other reason.

The killing is the 33rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 10 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
