Bishop O’Dowd basketball player Cameron Brown has been named the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for Jan. 24-30 after he received 42.52% of the vote by the 5 p.m. deadline Wednesday.
Pittsburg soccer player Josue Hernandez Villeda (33.46%) was second and Independence basketball player Luciano Caro (13.77%) finished third.

Brown, a senior, had 24 points and eight rebounds as O’Dowd defeated Berkeley 61-57 to improve to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the West Alameda County Conference Foothill League. Brown also scored 32 points in a victory over Piedmont and 20 in a win over San Leandro.
