PITTSBURG — A 1-year-old girl inside a car that was stolen was found safe, and officers arrested a 24-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of kidnapping her, police said early Friday.

In a social media post, Pittsburg said they found the woman suspected of the crime on Harbor Street. They said she also is suspected of vehicle theft.

In a social-media post, Pittsburg police said a 2007 Chevy Tahoe was stolen around 5:45 p.m. from a business on Bliss Avenue. The driver took off on Railroad Avenue heading toward California Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert at 7:38 p.m. for residents in Contra Cota, Alameda, Solano and San Joaquin counties.

Officers later found the abandoned car on Army Drive with the child inside. Officers reunited the girl with her family.

According to police, the kidnapping happened after the child’s father got out of the Chevy at the business on Bliss Avenue. Police said the man left the car running with his daughter in a car seat, then walked a few feet away to talk to another man.

Police said a woman approached both men and asked for a cigarette. Police said when the two said no, the woman walked toward the running car, got in and drove away.

Officer recovered surveillance video of the interaction, police said, helping investigators to identify the woman. A call from a citizen reporting a woman with the suspect’s description helped police find her.
