OAKLAND — A 30-year-old  Antioch man in an East Oakland shooting Monday night where another man was wounded was identified by police Wednesday as Kenneth Ewing.

The name of the 31-year-old wounded man has been been released.

The shooting happened at about 10:40 p.m. Monday in the 8900 block of MacArthur Boulevard in the city’s Castlemont neighborhood.

Police responding to a ShotSpotter alert found that a vehicle containing Ewing, who was driving, had crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene, just before 10:55 p.m.

Police said he and the other man were outside a nearby market when someone began shooting and they were both wounded.

Ewing was able to get into his vehicle and drive to where he crashed.

The other man got his own transportation to a hospital where he was in stable condition.

Police don’t think the men knew each other.

Police have not released a motive yet for the shooting and have not made any arrests.

The killing is the 87th homicide and 82nd murder investigated by Oakland police this year. For all of last year police investigated 78 homicides in the city, 75 of which were classified as murders.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
