SAN JOSE — California HIghway Patrol investigators were at the scene of a fatal vehicle collision on Interstate 680 late Sunday, authorities said.

At 10:32 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of the collision in northbound I-680 lanes just south of South Jackson Avenue, Officer Damian Cistaro said.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle and motorcycle blocking the No. 1 lane, and the motorcycle’s rider was pronounced dead at the scene, Cistaro said.

CHP officers issued a Sig-alert at 10:44 p.m. closing all but the No. 1 with no estimated time of reopening. The alert also diverted southbound Interstate 280 traffic onto northbound Highway 101, Cistaro said. San Jose police and firefighters also responded to the scene.

No other details were immediately available on any other injuries. Check back for updates.
