Pet food needed
Humane Society Silicon Valley is looking for food donations for its Pet Pantry program, which provides pet food to owners who cannot afford to feed their pets. The Pet Pantry is available to all pet owners residing in Santa Clara County who are experiencing financial hardship.
Humane Society president Kurt Krukenberg said the need for the Pet Pantry’s services has increased during the pandemic.
“In the nine months prior to Shelter in Place, we supported 113 families and 400 pets,” he said in a statement. “In the last four months, we provided food to 176 family households and 465 pets. Currently, we have 242 local families signed up to receive assistance through our Pet Pantry program.”
From April 1 to July 30, the Pet Pantry provided pet owners with 4,600 pounds of dry dog food, 2,500 pounds of dry cat food, 2,900 cans of dog food, 3,300 cans of cat food and 1,000 pounds of cat litter.
“We have volunteers that provide direct delivery to wellness clinics, local homeless encampments, and homebound clients,” Krukenberg said. “In addition to receiving food, many Pet Pantry clients also receive other supplies and medical services for their pets.”
To donate pet food, visit the Pet Pantry Amazon Wishlist or bring unopened dog or cat food to the bins outside the Humane Society’s intake lobby at 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily.
