Mass protests denouncing the killing of George Floyd, an African-American man, while in custody of a Minneapolis police officer continued for a third day around America. Beyond U.S. shores, people in other nations expressed support for the Black Lives Matter movement and voiced their outrage over Floyd’s death.
In Germany, Denmark, Brazil, Canada and the United Kingdom, protesters came out in solidarity with the movement. The demonstrators did this despite the coronavirus pandemic still impacting some of their countries.
In the United States, protests continued in Minneapolis, the epicenter of the movement and the site of Floyd’s death. The city has seen much of the violence as buildings and other property have burned down. Elsewhere in the nation, cities such as Philadelphia, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., saw contentious protests that led to the arrest of several demonstrators. Other locales had more peaceful outcomes. In Bellevue, Washington, the police Chief Steve Mylett hugged demonstrators. In the same city, armed residents guarded the entrance to their neighborhoods after reports of looting in the area.
