To help families who need support for their pets during the COVID-19 pandemic, Humane Society Silicon Valley is expanding its Pet Pantry and Emergency Boarding programs.
HSSV’s Pet Pantry Program provides pet food to owners in Santa Clara County experiencing financial hardship. Donations of pet food can be made via the Pet Pantry Wishlist at Amazon.com or dropped in the bins outside HSSV’s intake lobby, 901 Ames Ave., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The Emergency Boarding Program recently expanded to provide short-term boarding for those who aren’t able to care for their pets due to COVID-19. The program is open to people who have been hospitalized and don’t have anyone to care for their pets; are caring for others and don’t have anyone who can take care of their pets; are first responders who are unable to take care of their pets due to work; or have lost or are going to lose their residence due to financial hardship.
“COVID-19 has greatly impacted families everywhere,” says Kurt Krukenberg, president of Humane Society Silicon Valley, “and some pet owners are facing the harsh reality that they may not be able to afford to feed their animals right now or even to keep a roof over their heads.
“People in our community are experiencing sickness or hardship, and so many others are taking heroic measures to provide care and support,” Krukenberg adds. “We are committed to ensuring their pets’ safety and well-being during these challenging times.”
