Grieving the deaths of loved ones has become more challenging in the age of coronavirus.

The normal mourning process involves families and friends gathering and comforting each other, but that has to be done at a distance with the COVID-19 pandemic. The danger of infecting loved ones during funerals has been documented and it has led to more deaths, according to The New York Times.

Amid this problem, funeral homes and mourners have adapted. Funerals that would normally have drawn hundreds have been winnowed to a few loved ones. The bereaved now wear face masks and gloves. They sit at least six feet apart. Some stand behind ropes and watch from afar as their loved ones are buried in caskets wrapped in plastic.

The photo gallery above shows that despite the differences across the globe, the grieving process is similar no matter the borders.
