The global death toll from the coronavirus hit 100,000 as Christians marked Good Friday in front of computer screens instead of in church pews, as religious leaders conducted services in a manner unheard of before the pandemic.

Almost one year after fire ravaged Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, Good Friday was celebrated in a secured area, bringing it back to life as a center for prayer.

More than 1.6 million people have been infected with the virus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.
