Doesn’t watching some live theater in Italy sound fantastic?

Yes, it sure does — especially when you’re talking about it taking place in the unforgettable city of Florence.

But, we need to clarify something here: The play is in Italy, but you won’t be. (Altogether now: “Drat!)

Still, watching “Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin” — livestreamed right from Florence, Italy, to your smartphone, computer, etc. — could be just the right ticket for theater/music lovers on this Mother’s Day.

This popular play with music features the ever-amazing Felder portraying the legendary composer responsible for some of most cherished songs of all time, including “Blue Skies,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “White Christmas” and, of course, “God Bless America.”

Felder, in appearance as Berlin, performs on the piano and relates stories reflecting on the great composer’s life and music.

Tickets are $50 per household and a portion of the proceeds benefit two of the Bay Area’s best theater companies — TheatreWorks Silicon Valley and Berkeley Repertory Theatre — which have both presented Felder onstage over the years.

The livestream happens over the Vimeo platform at 5 p.m. PT May 10. Purchase tickets via theatreworks.org or berkeleyrep.com. Viewing links and instructions will be emailed by 9 p.m. May 8 to those who purchase tickets.

“We’re thrilled to offer streaming for this incredible and moving show,” says TheatreWorks founding artistic director Robert Kelley. “Hershey Felder is cherished by TheatreWorks audiences and has shattered box office records with four tour-de-force performances on our stages.

“Whether experiencing it again, viewing for the first time, or offering this opportunity to their friends near and far, I know viewers will enjoy watching this musical celebration of the human spirit, a reminder of a great American hero who had a song in his heart even when things were tough.”
