Soak in some spectacular San Francisco Bay views as we explore the bicycle and pedestrian path on the eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

The path, which is part of the Bay Bridge Trail, opened to the public in October 2016. It stretches 2.2 miles from Oakland to Yerba Buena Island, and offers cyclists and pedestrians an up-close look at the bridge’s 525-foot main tower. The path also includes a landing area and vista point on Yerba Buena Island; it was opened in 2017.

The path is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The first cars rolled over the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge in 2013. The span replaced the seismically vulnerable old span, which damaged in 1989 during the Loma Prieta earthquake.

Construction of the self-anchored suspension bridge took 11 years — at a cost of $6.4 billon.
