OAKLAND — A 33-year-old woman was shot Thursday night just a few steps from Lake Merritt, authorities said.

She was in stable condition at a hospital.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday  where a small crowd was gathered at Pine Knoll Park in the 200 block of Wayne Avenue. Multiple shots rang out, sending people scattering and screaming.

When officers arrived moments later, they found multiple casings in the street and saw that some parked vehicles and at least one residence in the area had been hit by the gunfire but no one with gunshot wounds.

It turned out the woman, who had been wounded in the upper torso,  had already been driven from the area to a hospital by another person.

Police are trying to determine if the woman was hit by a stray bullet fired  during a shootout involving other people.  No motive has been determined for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
