Deadly shootings in Kenosha, Portland mar protests on police brutality
Aaron J. Danielson, 39, was shot and killed Saturday night after supporters of President Donald Trump clashed with counter-protesters in Portland, Oregon. Danielson was wearing a hat with the insignia of Patriot Prayer, a far-right group that has clashed with protesters in the past.
Local media reports say a 48-year-old anti-fascist named Michael Forest Reinoehl is under investigation in the fatal shooting. Anti-racist, police brutality activists have protested in the city for more than 90 consecutive days, starting after the May 25 killing of George Floyd and seizing a second wind from the Aug. 23 shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Protests in Kenosha turned deadly Aug. 25, when Kyle Rittenhouse, a teenager from Antioch, Illinois, allegedly shot three people. The 17-year-old, who has professed support for Trump and Blue Lives Matter, is being charged as an adult in the killings of Anthony M. Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum.
