Good news for downtown dwellers in San Jose:
San Pedro Square Market, which had closed for the first two months of the COVID-19 crisis, will greet customers again starting today, with 10 of its vendors offering takeout and delivery.
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The market hall itself will not reopen; all orders must be made online and picked up outside on the patio at the St. John Street entrance.
Participating merchants include both longtime tenants and relative newcomers: Pizza Bocca Lupo, Loteria Taco Bar, Pasta Fresca, Phonomenal Noodle House, Anchors Fish & Chips and Seafood Grill, Bread Brothers, GameDay, Jora Ceviche Bar, Urban Momo and Voyager Craft Coffee.
Other vendors will return later, according to an SPSM representative.
Missing from the lineup going forward will be the Blush Raw Bar Lounge, Konjoe Burger Bar, Treatbot’s ice cream stand and the Chocatoo dessert bar, whose leases were expiring during this timeframe.
The owners of Blush noted on social media that they had lost their lease, while the Konjoe Burger Bar team said they would be focusing on their Santa Clara location on Monroe Street going forward. Treatbot’s karaoke ice cream truck has been involved in the “Feed the Front Line” effort.
“The last 7 years have been nothing short of amazing and we truly appreciate all the support from @spsmarket and the San Jose community. It is because of this support that we were able to open other locations,” a posting on the Konjoe Facebook page reads.
The 10 vendors who are reopening at the market hall will join several restaurants already offering takeout and delivery at San Pedro Square, including 71 St. Peter Mediterranean Grill, Farmers Union, O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub, Five Points, Old Wagon Saloon & Grill, Old Spaghetti Factory and Togo’s. Starting Tuesday, Sushi Confidential will also reopen for patio pickups of food from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
