OAKLAND — Police were at the scene of an injury shooting in the city’s Laurel neighborhood, authorities said Wednesday.
Just before 2:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity near 35th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they found a man outside a business in the 3400 block of MacArthur suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
“I came outside and he was on the ground already, there wasn’t a lot to see,” a witness said. “Everything happened so quick … I didn’t hear anything, it was a quiet thing.”
At least one witness who was waiting for police to finish their investigation so she could retrieve a load of dried clothes from the laundromat said she also failed to hear the gunshot because she was wearing headphones while inside.
After providing care alongside Oakland Fire Department firefighters, paramedics took the man to a hospital. The victim was taken to surgery and his condition was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
Police did not share any details of a suspect description or associated vehicle.
The Laurel neighborhood’s relative calm was broken in mid-month by an argument that devolved into an injury shooting, and by other crimes including a gunpoint robbery at a nearby fast-food restaurant Tuesday night.
