Amy Robach’s ‘rocky’ marriage to Andrew Shue preceded T.J. Holmes affair: report

Revelations about the secret romance between the ‘Good Morning America’ co-hosts also have caused ‘mayhem’ at ABC, with executives holding ’emergency meetings’ to figure out how the network should handle the situation, a report says

With news that Amy Robach has been involved in a secret, months-long romance with her “Good Morning America” co-host T.J. Holmes, it’s also been reported that she hid some painful realities about her 12-year marriage to Andrew Shue when she and the actor once happily described their blended family as being like “The Brady Bunch.”

It turns out that Robach, 49, and Shue, 55, “had problems” over the years and had finally broken up, with the actor moving out over the summer and the couple getting close to finalizing their divorce, sources told Page Six.

Insiders also said they wouldn’t be “surprised” if Robach had other flings during the marriage, with one source saying: “She and Andrew had their rocky moments — they almost broke up a few times over the years.” But the source also said, “It’s not like Amy is some serial philanderer.”

As sources told Page Six that Robach and Holmes are “happily in a relationship,” they were all smiles when they appeared together during the third hour of “Good Morning America” Thursday, one day after their alleged affair was revealed by the Daily Mail. They said nothing about their personal drama, as Robach, with Holmes and Dr. Jennifer Ashton by her side, declared, “It’s Friday eve!”

“Who’s looking forward to the weekend?” Holmes said with a laugh before Robach raised her hand. “Of course we are,” he said. “Welcome, everybody, to GMA3: What You Need to Know. Always good to see you.”

However, behind the scenes, the secret romance has caused “mayhem” at “Good Morning America,” with ABC executives holding “emergency meetings” to figure out how the network should handle the situation, the New York Post reported. It’s possible that any failure to alert their bosses about the romance could violate network policies about inter-office relationships, an oversight that could lead to disciplinary action, including suspension, the Post reported.

Ultimately, how ABC executives respond could also get down to ratings, a source told The Post. The story about the romance is attracting attention, with “ratings going through the roof,” a source said. Robach and Holmes will “keep their jobs if their ratings hold up” in the coming weeks, the source said.

News of Robach and Holmes’ secret relationship broke Wednesday after the Daily Mail published a series of photos showing the two looking affectionate together. One photo showed them holding hands in a car, and another photo showed the two enjoying drinks and laughing together at a bar in New York City. Yet another captured Holmes playfully touching Robach’s backside as she packed up a car. The Daily Mail said the photos were snapped at different times in November in New York City and while the two spent a weekend in upstate New York. Reports say that the romance may have developed while the two trained together for the New York City half-marathon in the spring.

Robach wed Shue, known for “Melrose Place,” in 2010. She was previously married to baseball player Tim McIntosh from 1996 to 2008 and shares daughters Ava and Analise with her former spouse. Robach also is the stepmother of Shue’s kids, Nate, Aidan and Wyatt, from his previous marriage to Jennifer Hageney.

In 2017, Robach and Shue gave an interview to Us Weekly, offering a glimpse into what they portrayed as a happy “Brady Bunch” family life.

“We’re mentors who guide them and love them,” Robach said about their children together. Robach also told Us Weekly: “My daughters have a stepmother with their father, and I look at it like, there are more people who love my kids.”

They also talked about their family traditions, with Shue saying that the family sits down for dinner together five nights a week. Robach also explained that they “spend money on experiences and not material things. … Seeing a Broadway show with my girls for Christmas instead of getting them clothes turned out to be one of the most meaningful ways to spend my money and time. Memories can’t be broken or returned.”

Meanwhile, Holmes has also been married twice, Us Weekly said. Following his 2007 divorce from Amy Ferson, with whom he shares daughter Brianna and son Jaiden, he wed Marilee Fiebig, an attorney, in 2010. They welcomed a daughter named Sabine in January 2013.

As recently as 2020, Holmes admitted he gave his now-estranged wife “plenty of reasons, excuses, and opportunities” to leave their marriage years ago, Page Six reported. He posted “a cringey” 10th anniversary tribute to Fiebig, which has gone viral amid news of his alleged romance.

“10 years ago, Marilee Fiebig married me,” the former CNN anchor captioned throwback wedding photos at the time, Page Six said. “And despite my best efforts, she remained married to me the past 10 years.”

Holmes joined ABC News in 2014, filling in at “Good Morning America” until he scored a regular gig as co-host of the show’s third hour in September 2020, Us Weekly said. Robach, meanwhile, has been at the network since 2012. She also co-hosts “GMA’s” third hour and serves as co-anchor for ABC’s primetime news program, “20/20.”
